Playing Dress Up

In a world filled with blue jeans, tank tops and flip flops, where do heels or dresses fit in?

It seems these days, the theme to all events, moments shared and memories is comfort and convenience.  Going to dinner? Throw on some jeans and a tee. Attending a party? Jeans again... and maybe a snazzy blouse, oh, and flats of course.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not mocking the comfort style as I live this on the daily! All I'm saying is, at what point do we decide to put a little effort in?

That being said, I did it! And not just me alone, my young ladies did too! We had a sweet 16 to attend, so what better event to play dress up to... and that's just what we did. And you know, it really didn't take that much more effort. As a matter of fact, it felt great watching my two ladies getting their selves dolled up. To see the camaraderie between them was nothing shy of amazing! When in other circumstances, I might hear a little sibling rivalry or just the slight sounds of technology buzzing around them, this time I heard laughter, witnessed smiles and felt the friendship and love being shared.

Who knew that the act of dressing up would create a moment in itself? Who would have conceived that something would seem like a burden, the whole doing hair and make up, wearing a dress and oh no, heels too, would actually ignite a passion between myself and my mini-me's, to the degree that they want to do it again!

Why? Why do they want to dress up again? Maybe I should ask, why do I want to do it again? Because doing so gave us all a sense of self-love, self-appreciation, beauty and admiration but more importantly - it created a positive image in our minds of what we feel like "at our best". So when we are at our worst, we can know without a doubt that we can pull back up to where we've already been! And that being our "best" is not an impossible task, cause we've done it before!

I plan on dressing up more often and leveraging that with making time for my ladies, even we just make it to the couch for a movie and popcorn. I realized, I need it. They need it. We need it. Whatever it takes to nurture and love ourselves and each other.

Maybe your dress up is simply make-up or taking the curlers out of your hair before going to the store. Maybe you wear heels daily so your dress up is a bit more extravagant or just the opposite, its going eau-natural to gain that sense of womanhood and femininity. Whatever you choose, do so with intentions of loving yourself always.

Stay positive friends.
