Why Shoot for the Moon?
According to Brian Littrell, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss the moon, you'll land among the stars." Most will find this motivational and inspiring. And at face value, that's very possible. I find this quote a bit challenging actually, for a few reasons.
For one, it symbolizes a goal, more so working towards reaching a goal, namely, the moon. And who doesn't want to reach a goal?? The part that makes me cringe and shy away is "shooting" for it, especially when you have done no target practice, you have no experience shooting, you aren't good at aiming and well, plainly don't have the tools to do so. You with me so far?
Secondly, who say's that "landing in the stars" is ok? Sounds like a cop out, a settling, a give up from the initial thought of shooting for the moon. What if my intentions was to surpass the stars because the moon meant more to me? What if my starting point IS the stars?
Still with me?
I could be just over-thinking this or reading too deep, but simply put, I don't want to settle for the stars! I want the tools and resources and knowledge and wisdom. I want the preparation it takes and will power and self-discipline necessary. I desire the drive and determination and perseverance and strength required.
When I shoot for the moon, I want to be certain that my aim is direct and with purpose! I don't plan on missing. I don't plan on falling short!
Is it possible that I might miss? YES! But I surely won't settle in the stars! I will pick myself up, recalibrate and do it again!
How about this - ...SHOOT FOR THE MOON!
Stay positive friends.
